BHEL exits JV by selling equity stake in UPCL to TANGEDCO Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) had formed a joint venture viz. Udangudi Power Corporation (UPCL) with Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) in November 2008 for setting up Udangudi Power Project. In 2010, TNEB was reorganized and the interest of TNEB in the joint venture was transferred to Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO). Consequent upon TANGEDCO` s request to undertake the Udangudi Project as a State Government project only and accordingly, upon approval of boards of BHEL, TANGEDCO and UPCL, BHEL has exited the joint venture by selling its equity stake in UPCL to TANGEDCO. The company made this announcement after the trading hours on 28 March 2013.

BHEL emerges L1 for supply of ESP for NTPC`s Mouda II & Solapur STPP Both orders together worth Rs 200 crore Bharat Heavy Electricals has emerged as L1 (lowest bidder) for supply of Electro Static Precipitator (ESP) for the power plants of Solapur STPP (2X660MW) and Mouda II (2X660 MW) both developed by NTPC . Both these projects are located in Maharashtra and ESP will be supplied by BHEL`s Ranipet unit. As per Veeraragavan, Executive Director, BHEL Ranipet Unit, the two orders aggregate to value about Rs 200 crore with the former is worth about Rs 90 crore and latter worth about Rs 110 crore. The Solapur and Mouda II power project are part of NTPC`s Bulk tendering of 11 sets of BTG of 660 MW rating. Since the award of BTG order is delayed due to legal tussle, the award of ESP too has been delayed even though it is tendered out as a separate package. According to Veeraragavan, NTPC is yet to float tenders for rest of the projects that is part of the bulk tendering.

BHEL`s Ranipet unit recorded 87% spike in profit to Rs 1,107 crore in FY 2010-11 Turnover rose by 41% to Rs 3582 crore The Boiler Auxiliaries Plant (BAP) of Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) is at Ranipet in Tamil Ndau. This unit has achieved a record profit before tax (PBT) of Rs 1107 crore during 2010-11, which represents impressive 87% spike from Rs.591 crore in 2009-10. , registering an 87% increase, largely to the reduction in material consumption. Chandrababu, Executive Director said at a press conference that the Ranipet unit had registered a turnover of Rs 3582 crore, up by 41% from Rs 2538 crore achieved in the previous year. The disproportionately higher growth in profits were largely due to reduction in material consumption during FY 2010-11. Chandrababu said, "We have been growing at an average rate of 35% over the past five years, and maintaining this trend. The unit has for the first time achieved a turnover of Rs.3,582 crore. This has been possible by the efforts taken by our team in despatching 2.82 lakh tonnes (mt) in the last 12 months. In spite of fluctuating steel prices, BHEL Ranipet could contain its material costs to 51.9 % of the gross turnover, after setting off the excise duty, through strategic materials management." The BAP had an outstanding order book of Rs 8315 crore in 2010-11, up from Rs 7892 crore in 2009-10. It bagged bulk repeat orders from India Bulls for five 270 MW boilers each for the thermal power plants in Nashik and Amravati. The Executive Director said that while BAP had achieved a capacity expansion to meet its proportional target for production of power plant auxiliaries by BHEL as a whole to cater to the targeted 15,000 MW of power production, its plans were on track towards achieving its physical target for augmenting the installed capacity to 20,000 MW by July 2011 as against the target date of March 31, 2012. It has invested Rs 170 crore for capacity expansion. The Ranipet unit has entered into an agreement with GE India to acquire world-class technology for water treatment, and with TLT, Germany for axial fans. The West Bengal Power Development Corporation, Kolkata, which placed orders with a Chinese vendor for boiler auxiliaries for its thermal power plants, has now reverted to BHEL Ranipet and gave orders for two 500 MW boilers for its Sagardighi thermal power plant.
