The company announced the results after market hours on Monday, 23 July 2012.
Meanwhile, the BSE Sensex was up 61.82 points or 0.37% to 16,939.17.
On BSE, 2.14 lakh shares were traded in the counter as against average daily volume of 2.61 lakh shares in the past two weeks.
The stock hit a high of Rs 120.50 and a low of Rs 114.90 so far during the day. The stock had hit a 52-week high of Rs 128.70 on 29 February 2012. The stock had hit a 52-week low of Rs 80 on 23 November 2011.
The stock had outperformed the market over the past one month till 23 July 2012, surging 6.94% compared with the Sensex`s 0.56% fall. The scrip had, however, underperformed the market in past one quarter, falling 1.37% as against Sensex`s 1.28% fall.
The mid-cap branded packaged tea maker has an equity capital of Rs 61.84 crore. Face value per share is Re 1.
Tata Global Beverages` total operating income jumped 18% to Rs 1725 crore in Q1 June 2012 over Q1 June 2011, reflecting improved performance in most major markets coupled with favourable foreign exchange translation impact, the company said in a statement.
Tata Global Beverages said its profit from ordinary activities before tax at Rs 148 crore and profit after tax at Rs 99 crore in Q1 June 2012 were both lower when compared to corresponding period of the previous year primarily due to the impact of exceptional income. Exceptional income in the corresponding quarter of the previous year represented profit arising from sale of non core investments partially offset by exceptional expenditure, it said.
Commenting on the Q1 results, Mr Harish Bhat, Managing Director and CEO, Tata Global Beverages said, "Our operating results for the first quarter of this financial year represent significant progress over the same quarter of the previous year. We have seen good volume growth and performance in key global markets including the United Kingdom and India, notwithstanding selective price increases which were implemented in response to higher commodity costs. In addition, we continue to drive a range of operating efficiencies, which is yielding good results".
