Prices of commodities and instruments are always changing. A futures contract enables a buyer or seller to soften risk by locking-in a price today, for a future-dated delivery.
In effect, a futures contract is an agreement to buy or sell a specific amount of a commodity,or fixed value of financial instruments, at a specific price, on a specific date in the future.
Futures are exchange-traded contracts between a buyer and seller, carried out via authorized brokers.
Traders make money in Futures contracts by speculating on the price movements.
Futures trading allows for margin payments. This allows traders to trade in multiple higher value contracts than the money they currently have on hand.
Many traders pay the margin amount and book profits or losses by selling their position before the delivery date of their contract.
